BBQ Festival Activities and Special Events

The festival surrounding the competition is three days of events with entertainment the whole family will enjoy - all for only $7 per person and kids under 12 are free! Pork in the Park offers festival-goers a weekend packed with entertainment options. Complementing the festival’s featured events listed below, the festival offers live entertainment, rides and games, unique craft vendors, delicious food and cold beverages all weekend long.


You Be The Judge Experience - NEW EVENT!

Begins at 6 pm
To kick things off on Friday evening, a new You Be The Judge Experience will be introduced, offering the public a chance to help decide the KCBS wings and sweets competition. Tickets for the You Be The Judge Experience are $20 per person and include admission to the festival and a seat at the judge’s table. Tickets for this event must be purchased in advance online or at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center Box Office. Availability is limited, tickets sold on a first come, first served basis.

Run or Dye

Run or Dye Contest

Begins at 9 am
Saturday begins with a splash of color as Run or Dye, the world’s most colorful 5K, gets underway at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. Click here to register.

VIP Experience - NEW EVENT!

11 am – 10 pm
Join us for a VIP Experience at Pork in the Park on Saturday.

VIPs will receive

  • Admission to Pork in the Park
  • Access to the VIP Tent adjacent to the Main Stage
  • Access to premier restroom facility
  • Samples of KCBS competitor’s submissions in chicken, ribs, brisket and pork (limited quantities)
  • 10 tickets for 2 oz. samples of local craft beer
  • Souvenir beer tasting glass
  • Whole hog cooking demonstration and sampling with Jerry Elliott
  • Gift Bag

Eastern Shore Wing War (sponsored by Mountaire Farms)

Noon – 4 pm
The Eastern Shore Wing War returns this year, featuring three unique competitions that are sure to entertain all - from the wing connoisseur to the casual fan. The winners from each of the three competitions will be announced at 4 p.m. on the main festival stage.

People's Choice Wing Competition

Noon – 2:30 pm
Sample the best wings Eastern Shore restaurants have to offer in this bracket-style competition, as sixteen restaurants face off in a March Madness style bracket. We'll be counting on you to decide who will be crowned the victor. The champion receives $200 cash, a banner and bragging rights. Brackets are $10 and include 20 wing tasting tickets.

Amateur Wing Eating Competition

2:30 pm (Main Festival Stage)

Local Wing Warriors will take the stage for a showdown in this winner-take-all eating contest. The competitor who eats the most in a timed period will be declared the Champion Warrior and take home $100 in prize money.

Major League Eating Professional Wing Eating Competition

3:00 – 3:45pm (Main Festival Stage)
Professional eaters from around the world will go head to head during this wing eating competition sanctioned by the Major League Eating Federation. Current World Champion Eater Joey Chestnut will return to defend his title against other top-ranked eaters including fourth-ranked Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas. 4th Annual Cornhole Tournament

First Game at 12 pm
Whether you know it as cornhole, bag toss or one of its many other names – cornhole and BBQ are a perfect pair in the backyard, so it only makes sense that we have it at the festival as well! The first place team will take home bragging rights, $300 cash and two golden tickets to participate in the World Championships of Cornhole!

5th Annual Backyard BBQ Amateur Competition

Begins at 8 a.m.
Do your friends and family jump at the chance to join you at your place for a BBQ? If you think your chicken or ribs are up to snuff, test your skills in our Amateur Competition. Set-up begins at 8am, and the day concludes with an award ceremony at 4pm. Individuals or teams are welcome – but all meat must be cooked with charcoal or wood cookers, no propane grills here! Advanced registration is required.

Kids Q Competition - NEW EVENT!

Begins at 8 a.m.

Kids ages 5-10 are invited to participate in the new Kids Q Competition on Sunday! Teams will be provided with a grill and charcoal, bring your own meat!
